Project 2: Event Ad

P2TenilleDiel-page-001 (1)

Description:

An Event Ad, advertising a Chocolate Auction Fundraiser to benefit homeless families in the Salt Lake City, Utah area.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles):

I started this project by looking though some magazines that I have for good images that I would like to scan for the project, and to help me brainstorm what kind of event I was going to advertise.  When I found an image that a really liked, and had thought of what kind of event I was going to advertise, I started doing some layout sketches for the ad.  After that, I picked my favorite ad layout from my sketches, and used Microsoft Word to create the ad.  After the basic layout was ready I started thinking of colors for the ad.  I opened my scanned image in Paint and used the eye dropper tool on the image to find the RGB values of two colors to use in my design.  I did this so that the colors would work together with the image and create unity in the design.  When I had a good draft ready, I found two people to critique my work, as well as the instructor.  Their feedback was very helpful, and I used it to revise and finalize the final ad.

Message:

To come enjoy a fun and elegant evening of mingling, dining, and eating chocolate; all to help families in need.

Audience :

Charitable, middle to upper Class,  men and women that like chocolate.

Color scheme and color names:

Mono-Chromatic; Brick

Top Thing Learned:

That you can do pretty cool things with just Microsoft Word!  I was quite surprised that I was able to create the flier I did, using only Word.  There were options that I didn’t know existed in Word that now I plan to use whenever I have an opportunity.  This week also made me thankful for amazing programs like InDesign.  I am glad that I have the opportunity to learn how to use this powerful tool.

    Hey Tenille-

I really LOVE the chocolate photo. It’s making me want chocolate. Great scanned image. I like the monochromatic color scheme I think it works well with your fundraiser event. I also think the white space is interesting and helps to emphasis the date-time-place really well. Great job!

Your ad looks so delicious! It was a really good idea to put the scanned image where it is because it is a busier and darker image. I like how you used the same colors to for text boxes- I feel like this ties it in with the image. Honestly though, my favorite part is the three little squares between the two text boxes. They look like little chocolate squares! A suggestion that I have is with the amount of text you have- it almost felt like it was a bit too much. You really did do an amazing job!
